The Longcore Vineyard...
...Right bank OMP fruit.

Jim and Mim Longcore planted a cool site on the eastern side of Old Mission. Their plants are nestled in a warm little ampitheater just above the shore. The surrounding forest gives them protection from the winds and the proximity to the water keeps them frost free for a long time. We are looking at this site as one of our Auslese vineyards because of its ability to hold green leaves for a long time. 2008 marks its first Vineyard Designate release at LFC and we are excited about the wine. Only 70 cases of this sweeter style, truly late harvested Riesling were bottled.

Jim also grows Cab Franc, Dornfelder, and Merlot - all of which were used in the dry rose. The label shows a wrought iron fence on the Asylum campus which reminds us that Jim is not only a farmer but a blacksmith. On autumn days you will find him either checking his grapes or stoking the forge.
